Learn about your options
To learn more about the advantages and disadvantages and thus facilitate the decision-making process for companies, we have compiled a brief introduction to the three prevailing options:
In-Company Training
The in-company training option follows the classic dual TVET approach of school- and work-based training. Hereby, in-company training takes place in the companies themselves and focuses especially on work-based training, e.g. getting to know company-specific work processes or machines and tools as well as preparing for subsequent employment and transition to work. Therefore, existing company experts need to be formally trained as in-company trainers for learning pedagogical and methodological know-how to properly train the workforce.
Pros:
- Customized curriculum addressing the needs of your company and basis for continuous learning
- Capacity development by in-house trainers
- One-time investment with a long term benefit
Cons:
- Time consuming preparation to identify suitable trainers and curriculum

Pros:
- Local expertise with a broad knowledge on the current labor market
- Outsourced preparation efforts
- Access to expertise on experiences (best-practices)
Cons:
- Higher financial investment
- One-time operation
- Standardized methods that might not suit your company's needs

Internship Opportunities
Especially for companies that do not have experience with TVET and are therefore not willing to directly make higher investments in the qualification of their employees, offering internships for trainees is a viable solution to start work-based training. By hiring students for short-term employment, companies can gain initial experience with TVET and determine if and how they will benefit from training initiatives. This option is therefore the entry point to the more sophisticated and effective solutions mentioned above.
Pros:
- Low entry barrier for companies
- Short term productivity increase
- Trial and error for further investments into training initiatives
Cons:
- One-time operation
- Informal and general training approach
